The Health Benefits of 10 Percent Weight Loss for PAD Patients

As we approach Valentine's Day, you may be like a lot of Americans who are struggling to stay on track with their New Year health goals. The temptations of February—with the flurry of chocolates and celebrations—may cause you to stray from your 2022 health plan, but don’t beat yourself up if you veered off-course. Just refocus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

A dedication to healthy living is particularly important if you have been diagnosed with PAD (Peripheral Arterial Disease). Losing weight, exercising, and eating healthy is not just about fitting into your "skinny jeans"; it is about improving your vascular system and symptoms.

On your journey to a healthier you, don’t get discouraged if you happen to lose focus or take a holiday detour. Maintain your positivity and get back on track tomorrow! Studies have shown that a 10% weight loss can improve many obesity-related problems. It will help lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as improve fatty liver and PAD symptoms. Patients with PAD can lower their risk for a serious complication.

Losing weight can seem overwhelming, but if you practice self-kindness and surround yourself with a support system to achieve your health goals, it will shine a bright light on your path and give you the edge you need to achieve your goals and vibrant and healthy new you!

Many diverse diets are related to health. One example is the Mediterranean diet, which has been shown to reduce instances of heart disease and stroke. This diet is based on the inclusion of plant-based foods with every meal. Examples of this are whole grains, fruits, vegetables, seeds, legumes, and nuts. Don’t forget to substitute olive oil for butter and spice for salt. Red meat should be limited to a few times a month; fish, poultry, and eggs can be consumed weekly; dairy should be low-fat or fat-free; and water must be consumed every day.

As with any diet or exercise plan, consult your doctor to see which diet and exercise regimen is right for you.
